B -Beyond Measure-Jeremy Camp
Sometimes when you hear a song for the first time, it doesn’t really strike you. Sometimes it is because you think it doesn’t relate to you, or sometimes the circumstances in the song don’t apply to your current situation in life.
Such was the case with Beyond Measure. Then God reminded me of this song at a time when I was excited yet overwhelmed about becoming a father. It was a few weeks before Joey was born, but I didn’t know that at the time.
I reflected on the beginning stanza of the song in which Camp reflects upon the beautiful life God has given him with his newborn and his wife. He says “ It’s like a storybook with dreams that are meant to see that every next step is an extraordinary scene”
I thought of the miracle of how God put Jennifer in my life, giving me a beautiful wife, and a son that was on the way. God had truly written my story with pages I didn’t dream that could be written. When you allow God to write your story, beautiful things happen.
Then the chorus hit me the most: “ I know that I've been, Given more than beyond measure, I come alive when I see beyond my fears I know that I've been given more than earthly treasure, I come alive when I've broken down and giving you control”
God had given me beyond measure, but he was asking me to see beyond my fears. He wanted me to come to him, broken down and give him control of my life, my marriage, and becoming a father. So I went on my knees and started to give him control.
With Joey here now, I can truly see he has given me beyond measure. I have the son I always wanted, the wife who inspires me to dream big and see beyond my fears. It doesn’t mean life is always perfect, but when I am broken down and giving God control I begin to come truly alive.
Friends, give to God your fears so that you can begin on the path in becoming truly alive. Allow God to write your story and see God write something beautiful. Cherish the people God has put in your life, and encourage them to allow God to write their story.
