C-Creed-Rich Mullins

I was introduced to this artist by my dad. Rich Mullins died tragically in a car accident at the age of 41. Amy Grant called him the “uneasy conscience of Christian music” . However, it is only in recent years, I have truly learned to appreciate this man and his artistry.

The main lyrics of this song are composed of the “Apostles Creed”. It is an early statement of Christian belief with origins from before AD 390. Many of us may have heard it growing up in various church denominations. I however, did not hear of it, until I went to college at Johnson University. Even then, it was not very striking to me.

When put to song, though, it creates a beautiful expression of the Christian faith even more beautiful than written word. It helps me to reaffirm my faith and keep me grounded.

My most favorite lyrics are the chorus: “ I believe, what I believe What makes me what I am I did not make it, no it is making me It is the very truth of God, not the invention of any man”

This chorus, I wholeheartedly I agree with all my heart. I became a follower of Jesus after years of growing up in the church and a Christian household. Once I became a follower of Jesus, the very truths I heard all my life became a part of me in a way I can’t explain.

My faith has made me what I am today. What I believe, is the very truth of God. It has become apart of me and guides my whole life.

Some days I do, a better job of living it out than others. But I am convinced, than this faith, could not be made by me. No other thing could of changed my life more powerfully than Jesus.

So friends, hold on to your faith for dear life all your days. Know that it makes you what you are. Let it guide your every decision, your every move. Let people see Jesus when they look at you.

Without Jesus, we are nothing.
