Many of you were probably introduced to this song by the band Journey. I didn’t hear of the song until I hear it on the tv show Glee’s first episode.

I was instantly drawn to it’s melody, guitars riffs, before the words to the song. Then as I have gotten older, I have reflected on what does it mean to live out the chorus: “don’t stop Believin and hold on to that feeling’ .

Part of knowing that answer is understanding how the song came to be. Jonathan Cain, member of the band, recalls a conversation with his father. Jonathan was about to give up on his dream on becoming a musician and move back to his home in Chicago. His father told him in that conversation to don’t stop Believin, and the rest is history.

To me, don’t stop believin means believing in myself and follow the God-sized dreams God has for me. If I give up on myself, who else will live out these dreams?

From a young age, I didn’t want to live the American Dream, get marry, have kids, and have the white-picketed fence. I wanted to get married and have kids, but I want to live out God’s dreams for me most of all.

It is hard to juggle that when one gets married and has kids. But I think God is still calling me to pursue my dreams of writing and becoming a overseas missionary. However, he may change my dreams. I am flexible to going wherever God wants me to serve him and advance his mission.

What does “don’t stop believin’ mean for you? What dreams need to be lived out? How does God want to use you to advance his kingdom?

Don’t stop believin today, friends. Belief in yourself is essential to knowing who you are in Christ and be on mission with him. It is essential because without believing in your worth in God’s eyes, you cannot tell others their worth in His eyes. And that makes all the difference in going on mission with God wherever you are called to serve.
