F-First Love-Chris Tomlin

I remember right where I was when I start following Jesus. I was a 11 year old boy, in a church in New York State on vacation. I had grown up in the church, but it was not till that day that I began worshipping Him with my whole life. I started that day singing the worship songs with a passion that came over me that can only be described as the Holy Spirit.

It was on that day after the pastor had a altar call, that I went up to the front to receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior. My mom says that I didn’t just go up, I ran up to the front of the church!

When I listen to the song, First love, it helps me remember that particular moment and puts my life in perspective.

This song is about remembering Jesus as our first love in midst of our changing lives, causing us to reflect on His ever abounding love and faithfulness.

Andrea Lucado says “The Christian life is marked with moments when we have to return to themoment and remember the difference Jesus made in our lives, that He really is and always will be our first love.”

In writing this reflection, I am having such a moment. However, today, I remembering another moment. I was having a time of worship with God, out for a walk, listening to music. At the time I was living at my parents house and don’t know exactly if it was before I was before I met Jennifer or not.

All I knew, as I was singing out the words to this song, with my back against a tree in the back of my parents house, that Jesus was still my first love and would still be my first love regardless of my relationship status.

Now that my relationship status has changed to married, it hasn’t change my relationship status with Jesus. He is the one that captured and won my heart that day in June of 1998. He is the one who has given meaning and purpose to my life that I can’t describe fully in words. I will forever strive to let the world know of my first love,Jesus through the living out of my day to day life to my dying breath.

If Jesus is your first love, is your life reflecting that fact? Have you forgotten in the midst of your striving to make Jesus known, your first love?

Today, I pray that you will have a moment in which you remember the moment Jesus changed and transformed your life. Remember the difference he made in your life and let your life reflect that fact.

May you strive, to let the whole world know that earthly love, even as great as our spouses are, can’t compare to our first love, Jesus. May the world see in your passion for Jesus a fire that inspires them to get to know this Jesus who has changed your life for the better.
