This song has been played at my church as a call to response to particular messages that called for some action from the congregation.
Oftentimes, however, I have sang the song, not truly meant the words I am seeing. Is the true prayer of my heart “ for the sake of the world light a fire within me”? Do I desire for God to light a flame within me so the world may see Jesus in me?
It is not enough for me to be stirred by God, I must response to the call God has put on my life. I am still in the process of discovering the call God has put on my life, but I believe a huge part of it is bringing the nations to Jesus as part of his body, the Church.
How I am bringing the nations to Jesus through my life? How am I using my gifts and talents and abilities for the kingdom of God?
These are questions we must all ask ourselves. The Great Commission ( “go and make disciples of all nations” is not optional, it is a command.
How do we, as part of the Church together, bring the nations to Jesus? It begins by befriending the nations from across the street, and ultimately, the world.
We can begin, by intentionally seeing out people from other cultures and inviting them into our lives, and into our homes. Who knows, that through our friendships we may bring nations to Jesus?
So my prayer for all of us is to “burn a flame”within each of us to bring the nations to him through the very living of our lives, our words, and actions.
May our lives point to Jesus and no one else.
