G-Good, Good Father-Chris Tomlin
It is so easy for me to be defined by so many things. A worker, a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a follower of Jesus. Yet at the same time, feel distracted and pulled by those very things. Am I the best worker I can be? Am I a great father? Am I am a good provider for my wife? Am I seeking after Jesus with my whole heart? Such are the questions that sometimes keep me up at night.
This is why this song speaks to the core of my heart and what my identity truly is.
The chorus speaks to who God truly is and who we are in relation to Him:
“You're a good good father
It's who you are, it's who you are, it's who you are
And I'm loved by you
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am”
Who I am is loved by God. That should be how I define myself and nothing more. If I fail to remember this, I will not live life to the fullest and live the life God has called me to live.
The late Brennan Manning said, “Define yourself as radically beloved by God. This is the true self. Every other identity is a illusion”.
Friends, I encourage you to see yourself as one loved by God and nothing else. See your identity as a child of God and live your day to day life as a child of God.
In the song Tomlin says that there is peace and love that come from realizing who God is and who we truly are. But that peace, and love does not live us to keep the love of Christ to ourselves. He calls us deeper still into love, Tomlin continues.
But what does it mean to make live life as he calls deeper into love? It begins by loving yourself and seeing yourself as God’s child above anything else. Then you are called to love the world around you and point them to Jesus with your life.
Friends, let your life be an offering to our God today. Live your life as a child of God and let your life point to Him above anything else.
