H-Heart’s Cry-Steven Curtis Chapman
“This is my heart’s cry
I want to know the one who saved me and gave me life
This is my heart’s cry to be so close to him that all my life becomes
A testimony of my Savior’s grace and love
This is my heart’s cry”
No other words could better describe what I want my life with Jesus to become. I want people to see Jesus in me, not Michael Moore, and that my very words and actions point to Jesus above myself. If this life I live only for myself and my desires, this life I live is truly meaningless.
Jesus’s cross as Chapman continues in the song, “should of been mine but His love broke through time.” I deserved to die for my sins and actions against Him, but Jesus died in my place. Many people think of me as a good person, but I am of no good without Jesus in my life.
As Chapman expresses later in the song, “
Oh, this is my heart’s cry, to stand before the Father one day
And hear Him say well done-this is my heart’s cry”
At the end of my days, I want everyone to say that I pointed them to Jesus through the living out of my day to day life. That I was not ashamed to proclaim Jesus through my words and actions, letting them know that Jesus was what my life was about-nothing more, nothing less. May Jesus say the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant” as I see him at the end of my life.
What is your heart’s cry? Is it to make Jesus known or yourself known? We live in a world that says to build a true legacy is to make yourself known.
I challenge you to build a legacy on the one that truly matters: Jesus.
D.E. Hoste was a missionary who succeeded Hudson Taylor, a great missionary giant, as leader of China inland mission for 30 years. As he led this movement, he lived out his life by a quote he once said: “Live to be forgotten, so Christ is remembered.”
What would it take for us to live our lives in such a way as to live to be forgotten? To put all our hopes and dreams in making Jesus known?
I think it all becomes by reading God’s Word and seeking to apply its lessons to your day to day life. As you seek to make Jesus known, your life will look different to the outside world. They will no longer see you, but something different than they cannot describe or imagine.
May you through the living of your life, say the something different is Jesus. May at the end of your days, people may remember Jesus, and not you.
It is only then you will know that your life pointed to Jesus, and not you.
