"To be loved and not known is comforting but superficial; to be known but not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and fully loved is a lot like being loved by God."
Timothy Keller
This song by Tauren Wells was inspired by the above quote. We live in a world in which we are either known by people or loved by them.
I have met many people in my life that have known me, but really don’t love me. Yet the deepest desire for me is not to be just known, but loved. However, if I am honest with myself, I desire to be both loved and known, even if it means me uncomfortable at times.
“I'm fully known and loved by You You won't let go no matter what I do And it's not one or the other It's hard truth and ridiculous grace To be known fully known and loved by You I'm fully known and loved by You”
In this world we live in in which we are either known or loved, is a invitation to know the God who both loves and knows us. To me, that is intimating, but comforting at the same time. The God who knows my flaws, all my mistakes, desires to show the full extent of His love towards me. It is a love that is so unbelievable, that I would be overwhelmed if I truly comprehend the depth of it.
I have a hard time having grace towards myself. I have a high standard towards whatever I do, that when I don’t live up to it, I get frustrated. Yet, if I realized the depth of the grace and love of Jesus for me, I would love myself better and have grace for myself.
Too often, we think that to love ourselves is a prideful thing in comparison to loving others. Yet, if we love ourselves and have grace to ourselves, we grow closer to our God as we see the depth of His heart of love for us.
Today, friends, I urge you to take me up on that invitation to know the God who knows and loves you. He wants the best for you, and wants to have a relationship with you.
In having a relationship with you, you will discover the deepest love that you could ever imagine.
You will also discover the greatest knowledge: that God knows you yet wants you so very much despite your flaws and mistakes.
He is the only one in all this world who will love and know you throughout every mountaintop, hill and valley of life.
