L-Land of Opportunity-Steven Curtis Chapman

You and I live in a world full of opportunity every day, every hour. Opportunity as Steven Curtis Chapman says, is knocking on the door of our hearts. It promises a world full of promises to provide significance, power, and worldly pleasures, among many other things.

However, when we pursue these things, at the moment it may feel great, but in the end our search comes out empty and unfulfilled. We are left asking as Chapman says, “How much is enough?”

The answer is in the chorus:

I can live like a prisoner to all that could be

I'm living in the land of opportunity

But a heart pure and simple

Is a heart that stays free

Living in the land of opportunity

I'm living in the land of opportunity

I remember when I was single, and I longed for the days when I would get married and have kids. I often lived as a prisoner to what could been be instead of focused on Jesus. My attention was divided between my present and my future-while Jesus wanted my everything.

What does it mean to have a heart that is pure and simple? I believe it comes down to childlike faith. Jesus says in Matthew 18:2-4, to enter the kingdom of heaven one must have faith like a child.

My son Joseph has faith in me and my wife for we have shown ourselves to be ones that provide and protect him. His trust and focus is on the ones that provide and protect him.

This is what it means to have childlike faith. To give Jesus our complete and undivided attention, for he alone is worthy of our trust. To simply rely on him as if our lives depended on it. For Jesus alone is the source of life.

When we have a heart that is pure and simple, our hearts will be truly free as we seek God’s kingdom above all things. Our earthly kingdoms of money, fame, pleasure will crumble and fade, but the kingdom of our God will last forever.

As we seek God’s kingdom, we will find what our hearts truly desire. A life of freedom, worth and significance, not found in ourselves, but Jesus.
