“And I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways Maybe just the touch of a hand Oh me I fall in love with you every single day” Every couple deserves that special song that takes them back to that moment when they first fell in love. For Jennifer and I, that song is “Thinking out Loud”. The above lyrics always set my heart pondering on where God has taken me in my life. Through a online dating service called Eharmony in 2017, we were matched. I was living in Maryland, she was living in Ecuador as a missionary . Then we had talked and talked with 2 to 3 hour “Skype dates” . Our souls had connected in a mysterious way.
She had already fallen in love with me unknown to me at the time. Yet I was wanting to, but was still reeling from the rejection of another girl. Then God did what only God can do and began healing my heart. He show His love in new and profound ways, opening my heart to loving someone else again. One day, I said to myself, “ I love this girl” . And later that day, I declared my love to her as we talked online. Then we met in August of 2018 when she was on furlough. I flew to Indiana to meet her and we later drove back to Maryland. The first of many trips where we got to know each other on a deeper level. I told Jennifer when I declared my love to her that I dreamed of marrying her. It was probably scary for a person who had never met me before. It was scary for me too as I couldn’t imagine my heart being able to love again so fast. Yet when we met, I was enthralled by her beauty inside and out. I saw a beautiful woman of God who challenged me in new ways. I couldn’t imagine a better woman that God could give to me. I took a leap of faith as I flew to Mexico and got down on one knee. She said, “Yes” in December 2017. We got married in April 2018. Now we are blessed with a beautiful son born in March 2019. I believe something beautiful happens when you let God write your love story.
Only God can take two hearts that love him and turn them to two hearts that beat as one. So if you are single, I encourage you to follow God with your whole heart. Love him with full abandon and pursue him wherever he leads you to go. He may just surprise you along the way with a special man or woman. If you are married, take time to rekindle your love for each other God placed that love in your heart so that both of you together, may change the world for His glory. So I urge you whether you are single or married, to love deeply the ones God has placed in your life. Be intentional in showing that love through your words and actions.
But don’t be surprised if God places new people into your life to love deeply and passionately. Perhaps you can point them closer to Jesus through the living of your one life you have been given.
