Hi guys,
It has been awhile!
I have been busy adjusting back to life after my trip to Ecuador with my church. I will share about it in future reflections.
Just wanted to tell you of the vision behind this blog (that hopefully, one day, will be a book!!)
Music has had a profound impact in the lives of God’s people throughout history. In biblical times, when God’s people were discouraged and defeated in the battles and storms of life, God used music to play a powerful impact in their lives.
For example, when Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, faced war with Moab and Ammon in 2 Chronicles 20, he appointed men to sing to the Lord and they went out ahead of the army. These men were not soldiers in any sense of the word, but God used the power of song to give them victory over their enemies. Also when Paul and Silas were in prison in Acts 16, they sang hymns to God and other prisoners were listening to them. An earthquake later shook the foundations of the prison, but the power of song must have an impact on the lives of those prisoners even after the earthquake.
I believe music can have the same impact in the lives of God’s people just it did in the Scriptures. I just don’t believe it can, I know it, can because I am living proof of it.
I grew up listening to Steven Curtis Chapman’s music, but the song “I will be here” stuck with me. It stuck with me because it’s lyrics of commitment and dedication to one’s spouse was one I wanted to be in my wedding. I wanted my future spouse to know I would be there for her through the successes and challenging moments of life. This is where lyrics between popular secular and Christian songs have power and influence. They have the ability to change and motivate people to see a preferred future for themselves that they didn’t see possible. My blog Michael's Musings seeks to bridge between their present and their future helping them to become more and better disciples of Jesus. In fact, I would say this blog means nothing without that goal in mind.
However, this very blog is not just rooted in music, it is also rooted in my relationship with God. I have a relationship with God that profoundly started when I accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord when I was 12 years old. In my gift of writing, I seek not just to challenge, strengthen, and support people, but also make more and better disciples of Jesus. If I have a relationship with my readers and seek to communicate truths God has spoken to my heart, they can be inspired to grow deeper in their relationship with God. Perhaps, even they, can make more and better disciples of Jesus from wherever they are in the world just like I sought to do for them.
