"Where the streets have no name Where the streets have no name We're still building then burning down love Burning down love And when I go there, I go there with you It's all I can do"
We live in a world where in which we live often determines how we are treated or how we are viewed. We are praised if we live in a safe area, or if we don't do so, we are not considered highly regarded. This is true in all continents as these attitudes seem to be rooted in our human nature. It seems that if one lives comfortably, there is a unhealthy level of pride that causes one to look down on others.
My wife and I have experienced this first hand since we moved to a area which is often known for crime. Comments such as "I wouldn't live there" or "Why do you live there?" are made to straight to our faces. Such comments often leave us feeling that people don't trust our decisions and that there is a standard of living that must be attained regardless the circumstances. Sadly these comments have been made by believers and non-believers alike.
I don't say these things to leave you feeling guilty. I say these things for you to examine your heart and your attitude towards things that are highly important in the eyes of our Creator. Our God is a God who does not have class distinctions, but only a position of love towards all he created. We are capable of building a attitude of love with our neighbors, but in the same breath, tear down that attitude with our words and actions. He wants us to live like the streets have no name, treating all people the same, regardless of race, religion, or class.
What would it take for you to live life in such a way? How can you begin living life in which we treat others the same?
One day we will be in a place where the streets have no name. In heaven, there will be no class distinctions, instead we will all be united in worship before our Creator God. But today, God calls us to live like it's heaven now. To bring heaven to earth, so that with one voice, we may bring a melody of love to all continents, whether rich or poor.
