“At the end of the day I want to hear people say
That my heart looks like Your heart
When the world looks at me, I pray all they see
Is my heart looks like Your heart”
What I have desired most in my life is to have a heart that is like God’s own heart. To be so caught up into God that people see only Him. Yet what does that mean in a world of many voices that call out for my attention?
I think it all begins with me seeking to become a person who is after the character of God in his life. A good place for me to start is pursuing the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 reads, “ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” If I seek after these characteristics, I believe I will in time, become a man after God’s own heart.
The only pursuit rather pursuing in this life is a heart after God’s own heart. You may desire to be a good husband, father, son, but it doesn’t matter if you are not pursuing a heart after God’s. The same is true if you desire to be a good wife, mother, or daughter. It all comes down to becoming more like God.
We can’t do this in our own ability, but only with God’s power working through us. It involves being alert, receptive, to how God is on the move around you and how you can be apart of it.
To be not so caught up in your past or your future, that your immediate attention is on the here and now. To ask God, “Who do you want me to serve today? “Who do you want me to love like Jesus? Who can I pour into words of encouragement?”
I believe we will discover the best life worth living in the pursuit of becoming men and women after God’s heart.
